Artist Statements

Portrait

My piece depicts Bradley Cooper. The most obvious element is the value. The most obvious principle is contrast.

To create this piece I mapped the piece out then I started going in darker and made more valuable. My inspiration for this piece is Bradley Cooper is my favorite actor. My goal as an artist was to see if I could make it more realistic. I did not reach my goal because I struggled so much with trying to draw him. By creating this piece I learned I can't really do faces that good at all. Overall I didn't like this piece because it took me so long to figure out how to draw him and still didn't succeed.

Anatomic study

This piece depicts a pair of a woman's legs. The legs are close up from the knees down to the ankle. The most obvious element is value. I used only 3 purples and a white to create this piece. This piece was created with prismacolor pencils. I used a lot of techniques to make my piece realistic. I used heavy pressure with white to get the highlights, less pressure white for the light colors. I blend by putting both colors on one spot and using the lighter one to blend them. My inspiration for this piece was that i'm not good at hands so i picked the next thing that came to mind. My work is meant to show if i can make it realistic. I tried to make it as good as possible. My goal was to make a realistic piece. I wanted to challenge myself by putting more highlights than i usually would. I think i accomplished my goal because it actually looks like real legs if they were in the sun. However, This piece turned out what i wanted it to be. This piece will influence my future work by me knowing that i can take risks and they would most likely turn out right. I will do another piece with prismas because they were easy to use and blend with.

Master's style

My piece depicts a paint brush painting over a field. The most obvious element is value. The most obvious principle is contrast.

To create this piece I mapped it out then started painting my background.

My inspiration is to show how everybody's path is different, You make your own.

My goal as an artist is to make my piece realistic. I did not reach my goal because I didn't get to finish my values.

By creating this piece I learned that you can't focus on one part of your piece to much. Overall I liked my piece because it was blended well even though I couldn't finish.

Bua inspired

This piece depicts a Superhero. The Superman is flying up to the sky holding his cup. The most obvious element is the value. I used only skin tones, blue, red and some grey. This piece was created with Prismacolor pencils. I used a lot of techniques to make my piece realistic. I used heavy pressure with white to get the highlights, less pressure white for the light colors. I blend by putting both colors on one spot and using the lighter one or white to blend them. My inspiration for this piece was I figured a Superhero would be great foreshortening if he was flying up and I drew him from an above view. My work is meant to show if I can make it realistic. I tried to make it as good as possible. My goal was to make a very realistic piece. I wanted to challenge myself by putting more highlights and deep tones than I usually would. I think I accomplished my goal because it looks like a man with form and not a flat figure. However, this piece turned out what I wanted it to be. This piece will influence my future work by me knowing that I can take risks and they would most likely turn out right. I will do another piece with Prisma’s because they were easy to use and blend with.

Art show

This piece depicts a split road with one person on the right side and 10 on the left. The most obvious element is the value. I did the road and grass with prismas and painted the people on the road. This piece was created with prismas and a little bit of paint. I used some techniques for the road to be smooth and blended. I used the things I knew from other pieces. My inspiration for this piece is you see a lot of people doing what other people did just because they did it and the message in my piece is saying "don't be a follower".  My goal was to make it better than all my other pieces. I wanted to challenge myself by using prismas on the whole piece. I don't think I accomplished my goal because I honestly think it's the worst out of all of them. However, This piece didn't turn out how I pictured it. It will influence my other pieces by knowing more about the colors and how to do more values.

Plaster sculpture

This piece depicts a baby panda. The baby panda is sitting with it's arms beside it. The most obvious element is color. I only used black and touched it up with white. The most obvious principle is balance. I balance the colors with the other sides colors.

This piece was made with plaster. I used a milk carton for the body, creamer container for the head and shaped it out with news paper. After that I plastered it with paper and painted it.

My inspiration for this piece was I just picked a animal i thought would be fun to do. My main goal was to make it as realistic as possible.

My goal with this piece was to make it look realistic as an animal would. I wanted to challenge myself to see if it could turn out how i wanted it. I think it looks realistic.

Overall, this piece turned out as i planned. This piece will influence my future work by knowing i can try new things and it will work out fine. I will try to do more plaster sculptures at home because it was fun to do.

Clay

This piece depicts a coil pot. It starts off with a twist then a Rose and little swirls. The most obvious element is formed. The rose was created with a bottle cap cutting into the slab then rolled them out, put them together, and also made it more presentable. This piece was created with coils. I used a lot of techniques to make the piece smooth and to look neat. By having some tools to help get in the small spots it should be easy. My inspiration for this piece was to make it look even better than my last coil pot. I really liked the last one. I just didn't like how it wasn't as smooth. I also think I did a lot better on the flower this time. My goal was to make this piece better than the last one. I wanted to challenge myself by doing the coil designs I couldn't really do last time. I think I accomplished my goal because it looks a lot neater than the last one did. The flower looks more realistic and all. However, this piece turned out how I wanted it to be. It will influence my next pieces by knowing I can take chances. I would love to do another piece with clay because it was easy to work with.
